Ranked as the leading cause of death in low-income level countries, pneumonia is responsible for just below 5.5% of the total annual global mortality [25]. Given the worldwide prevalence of pneumonia, there exists a need for improved methods of diagnosis and treatment of this life-threatening infection. Our project focuses on the design of a portable, low-cost device that can be used to detect pneumonia in areas that are unable to afford the pre-existing methods of diagnosis, or technicians and staff required to operate such devices.
